Western Winter Wander

Western Winter Wander.
A mildly cool morning start in Lithgow with a warm spot found for the crew briefing saw 31 JDCA members listening intently to what they were in for. After a few minor changes and the possibility of a detour in Oberon as the town decided to celebrate its 150 years with a street parade on the same day as our run- How Rude! Michael and Jess Tomlinson flagged the cars away and then continued along the route as the sweep car in Michaels “Jagazda” MX5. Karin and I went ahead and set up for some photos at the rail underpass in Tarana. There was a question here regarding the height of the bridge. There were 2 height signs, one on the left where all answers were to be found and one on the top which confused some competitors. Next was the morning tea stop at “The Avenue” Cafe at O’Connell. A small cafe in the old butcher’s shop which proved very popular with the members with some stating to return when next in the area.
Karin and I drove straight to Oberon to see if the parade was finished only to find it was still in progress. Fortunately it only affected the first car that even got stopped at the detour we organised. All others were able to travel along the correct route, phew. On to Jenolan Caves and our reserved parking, well no. So, off to the lower car park to count spaces and direct cars to them. Michael and Jess arrived not quite as last car with the hood down (Hutch would be proud). All cars accounted for and members now in the dining room for the 2 course meal and discussions of the run, all seemed happy. Next was the final question as all crews were told at the briefing to be observant from now until the end of the run. The final question was-  What was my jumper referring to and the date on it at the drivers briefing?  Answer- Repco Jaguar Mountain 1994. It was amazing how many people knew the answer.  After desert the winners were announced. As so many people did so well with the questions it finally came down to 2 crews scoring 100%. Neatness counts, both neat, spelling, both crews could spell; OK we have 2 winning crews.
The winning crews for bragging rights only scoring 100% were-
Debra and Tony Pallas.
Jane and Roger Liddle

After lunch crews settled in their rooms however, for some Manuel from Faulty Towers was preparing the rooms so some had to wait a while to move in. After sitting by the fire for a while we went down to the Lucas Cave for the Murder Mystery “Married to the Mob” this included an interval cave tour. I don’t agree with the conclusion that Margo murdered Frankie Sardini, but that’s another story.

Back to Caves House for a chat and drink until dinner at 7pm. This is where Karin and I bid adjure and departed for home.

National Rally

Karin and I attended the NSW National Rally this Easter in Wollongong. We left home on Friday Morning and drove the XJ-C to Wollongong via Taralga and Goulburn. We stopped in Robertson at the pie shop for lunch before completing our journey to the Gong. The V12 Coupe returned 15L per 100km (19 MPG) on the way down which impressed me immensely as that is the best it has ever given.

After Friday night dinner we spent some time with Andrew, Fiona and Elizabeth Lark who came down in their MK7. Saturday morning dawned and I was to man the main gate from about 6am (thanks Ken). I actually got there about 6.45 after a big breakfast. From here I got to view all the cars as they came in for the Concours and display. I was free to wander from 10am and headed straight to the new F Type for a gander, and what a great looking car it is up close. The growl from the exhaust was like a symphony due to the Active Sports Exhaust or "Loud Button" (Jaguar technical term of the day) which opened the baffles in the exhaust to allow free flow of exhaust from the V6 supercharged engine. There were new XJ's and XF's as well but nothing as sweet as the F Type. Jaguar Australia flew the F Type out to Australia from Malaysia just for the National Rally at a cost to them of around AU$40,000. Now that's support.
Now here's a thought. If I sell the coupe and the X308 I might be able to order one, however I would also need to have the bank tailor a loan to suit my needs as well. What do you think Karin? Oh well we can dream!
Apart from the usual array of beautiful cars we saw over the weekend there was the original D Type owned by Keith and Sandra Berryman. This is an original D Type and is in beautiful condition. It is believed to be valued somewhere between 6 and 8 million dollars.

On Sunday Karin and I did the "seniors" coach tour (as we called it). This is the first coach tour we have done. It was very well organised by Rae Arthur with the first stop being the Nan Tien Temple in Wollongong. This was an enlightening experience and if only some of the countries around the world would accept the Buddhist way of thinking the world would be a better place to live. Lunch was in Kiama and then some sight seeing before travelling back to the Hotel for dinner. Sunday night Karin and I met up with some long time friends from Berry and spent some 4-5 hours just catching up.

The Concours overall winner was NSW John Moody with his red series 3 OTS E type.

Monday morning dawned, we packed the coupe and headed home, this time via Mount Ousley, Penrith and the Mountains. This was 2 hours shorter than our trip down on Friday.
Congratulations to the JDCA organising committee for one of the best rally's we have attended so far.

Now just enjoy the photos.

2013 Oberon Steam Fair.

22 members and 10 Jaguars attended the Steam Fair at Oberon on the 9th of February.
Fine weather and a good crowd at the display and the town parade ensured us of a good day. Static displays, tractor pull, market stalls and of course the best display being the JDCA. We have visited the Steam Fair for the past 2 years so next year we will think of something different. Enjoy the photos.
