Western Register run to Kiama and the Australian Life Motor museum.
We departed Bathurst at 9.30 am and picked up more members at the O’Connell hotel before travelling through Oberon and Black springs. A comfort stop in the quiet town of Taralga before travelling onto Goulburn. At Goulburn we left the back roads for a while and travelled 30km up the highway to Marulan where, after a quick lesson in U turns we found the correct road and headed off to meet up with Laurie and Rae, Colin and Christine and Helen. We continued on some great country roads travelling through Tallong, Bundanoon, Exeter and Sutton Forrest. Lunch at Moss Vale before we headed towards Robertson and Jamberoo where we had to wait a while for the local dairy cows to cross. Then it was onto our overnight stop in Kiama. We all settled into our rooms then took a walk to the Blow Hole and Light House before some of our braver travelers hit the waves. The water was warm, so I was told but that was after you went numb and lost all feeling. At 7.30pm we met our bus which took us to our dinner location at the Kiama Leagues Club. A good dinner was had followed by a few ales to wash it all down, then it was back to the Motel pool for a chat late into the night.
Sunday morning dawned to see a couple of E Type owners up early washing their cars before a photo shoot in front of the Kiama Lighthouse. We departed Kiama and again travelled the back roads to kembla Grange and the Motor Life Museum, where we were met by the Annabel’s and a lovely morning tea supplied by the museum staff. After a few hours or so at the museum, some started to depart for home and others had BBQ problems (seems to be a Western Register tradition) mainly due to members of a lesser marque club taking over the picnic area.
At the end of the weekend everyone had a great time. The Annabel’s led the last of us home via Mt kembla, Picton, The Oaks, Silverdale and Warragamba. In all we travelled around 600 km and the vast majority of that was on quiet back roads with great scenery, through rain forests and farm lands. What a great way to spend a weekend. What did you do?
